State-of-the-art Coaches take to the road on Glasgow to Edinburgh Route

Scottish Citylink has introduced state-of-the-art vehicles on its popular Glasgow to Edinburgh route.

The new 63-seat coaches are 15-metres long – the longest coaches in Britain - and the first of its kind to be manufactured in the UK.

Fitted with air-conditioning and toilets, the coaches are fully accessible and will have a special lift for wheelchair passengers.

By the end of May, Citylink will be operating 13 of the vehicles on the commuter route which carries around 1.4 million passengers each year. They will replace existing vehicles on the 900 route.

The move is part of an £11 million investment by Perth-based Stagecoach Group which has also brought in the new vehicles for megabus.com

Graeme Hoggan, Commercial Manager at Scottish Citylink, said: "These vehicles are a further boost to the quality of service we provide to customers using the Glasgow to Edinburgh service.

“It’s easier than ever to travel between the two cities, with many services being faster, more frequent, and cheaper than travelling by train and more environmentally friendly than travelling by car.”

Services run on the key Edinburgh to Glasgow route every 10 minutes at peak times – beating First ScotRail’s timetable of trains every 15 minutes – with four coaches an hour during the rest of the day.

The service also offers the benefit of guaranteed seats compared to overcrowded peak time trains and the flexible option of web and phone booking or walk-on fares which start from as little as £1.
